The majority of projects I have lead or have been a part of provided support for a team that came to be known as “the best surf team in the world”.  From Surfing World Title campaigns to full length films, I piloted product programs and maintained internal systems to make sure support for that team ran smoothly.

THE TEAM

No project, job or even idea can be made complete without the work of a dedicated network.  At Hurley I operated within a network of sports marketing team managers that was the very best in the business.  What was our trade secret? Our ability to globally unite in order to deliver four seasons service to our surfers.

VIEW FROM A BLUE MOON

 
 
 

Supported by Hurley, professional surfer John Florence embarked on a mission to create a film shot entirely in 4K called View From a Blue Moon. It outlines the travels of Florence and his closest friends to highly coveted surf breaks around the world and sheds a special light on his home on the North Shore of Oahu. One of the most award winning surf films of all time, View From A Blue Moon was also one of the most rewarding projects I was a part of in my tenure at Hurley.

My main role in the film was to work with Fresh and Clean media to execute global premieres and promotional seeding kits.

The lead up to a world title can be just as important as the actual winning moment. In this campaign year for Julian Wilson, we created 40 “Golf Geek” kits for his friends and family to cheer him on heading into the final competition at Pipeline on Oahu’s North Shore. Knowing that Julian and his crew play a yearly tournament before the contest starts, this was the perfect moment for Julian to gain momentum going into the end of the year.

Title Gear

Oversaw all work on promotional product for athlete world title campaigns. This included the Champion product for John Florence’s 2nd world Title and Carissa Moore’s 3rd and 4th titles. This includes hats, tee shirts, flags and digital and physical marketing materials that have to be ready to distribute in minutes.

Product Scripting

Delivered annual competition product scripting plans to top tier athletes for all 11 stops of the World Surf League Championship Tour.

Team Product Distribution

Developed seasonal drop calendar for regional team manager network to leverage in order to maintain that the complete team roster was always up to date with the latest key styles.

Athlete Informed Product Development

Facilitated athlete connection to product teams for the development of signature styles and improving already existing styles. Most notable relationship I was involved with is Carissa Moore and the Innovation Swim development team at Hurley outlined here at Forbes Online.

Event Handling

Accompanying athletes to special events as a brand representative to help with any and every request that came through on their behalf. As the median age for professional surfing is younger than most sports, this sometimes also meant being a guardian for the younger team members.

Social Media 

Communicate brand marketing led messaging to athletes and managers for social placement and follow up for results.
